Golden Eagle Wrestling Club
The Golden Eagles Wrestling Club had a great showing at the Colorado USA Greco-Roman, Freestyle, and Girls Freestyle State Tournament. They had five H.S. wrestlers compete and four of them qualified for the U.S. Marines 16U and Junior National Championships in Fargo, ND. This is a huge accomplishment for these wrestlers that offers them an opportunity to compete against the best Greco-Roman and Freestyle wrestlers from all 50 states. To qualify for Nationals, wrestlers must place top 3 in the state or place at a Regional Championship. Fargo is the path to future collegiate and international wrestling.
In addition, the Golden Eagle Wrestling Club claimed 5th place out of 61 teams at the Greco-Roman State Championships. They increased our placement from 7th and improved our team score by 42 points from the 2018 tournament. We were 10 points out of 4th place. We had eight Golden Eagles wrestle for the chance to win the tournament and we had 4 claim state championships; Levi Beatty, Henry McDoniel, Lance Alexander, & Brock Schilling.
The Golden Eagles had three wrestlers in the Freestyle division compete for a tournament title; Vance Betts was the sole Golden Eagle that claimed the tournament title. Jaden McGowan and Emmett Alexander took Silver.
Over the next two months, we will have a small contingent continue training to prepare them for USA Wrestling's National Championships.
