Golden Eagles place all wrestlers
The Golden Eagle Wrestling Club participated in one of the smaller but still tough national wrestling tournament this past weekend. Over 200 wrestlers from 12 states participated in this annual tournament. There were Tulsa National, Who's Bad, Cliff Keen Nationals, Freak Show, and Reno Worlds champions and placers participating in this annual tournament.
Golden Eagles took eight wrestlers to this tournament and all wrestlers placed. High notes on the day were Ethan Diaz and Emmett Alexander. Both battled very well to beat talented wrestlers to claim national titles. This is Ethan's and Emmett's first national title in an experienced or open division. "I am impressed with how well they competed" said Coach Scott McDoniel. "Both have been getting better each week in the wrestling room. They may not see how they are improving but as coaches, we see it" continues McDoniel. In addition to Ethan and Emmett, all Golden Eagles placed at this tournament. "There were some really tough kids at this tournament. We did not win all of our matches but we had the opportunity to battle against some Tulsa and Reno World placers. So, we have room to get better and for some wrestlers, they were humbled to know they have to climb the ladder more than they thought" said McDoniel.
The Golden Eagles are getting stronger each week as they prepare for the Colorado State Championships. They will send a large number of wrestlers to the Wild West Championships in Gillette, WY this coming week.
